Our Pre-School Programs

Doncaster Kindergarten provides preschool programs for one 3 year old group and two 4 year old groups.

Our programs are carefully designed by our qualified educators who draw from a range of childhood educational theories and practices. They are based on areas of interest to children and families with an emphasis on learning through play with a wide range of free choice and educator-led group activities.

We offer an inclusive approach to programming that is sensitive to all children regardless of backgrounds. This increases children’s awareness and appreciation of different cultures and fosters pride in the cultural heritage of both themselves and others.

At the beginning of the year some of the skills and concepts developed include:

  • Establishing trusting relationships with educators and peers

  • Taking turns

  • Self-help skills

  • Being responsible

  • Following instructions

  • Cooperating within a group environment

The daily session plan usually incorporates:

  • Indoor time – art and craft; home corner/imaginative play; STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) activities e.g. sensory play, puzzles, blocks, nature play;  literacy; exploring cultures; and other activities.

  • Snack time – eating a healthy snack brought from home.

  • Group time – singing, musical movement, story and discussion.

  • Outdoor time – sand and water play, climbing, riding bikes, carpentry, nature play, imaginative play, ball skills.

The play experiences provided at Doncaster Kindergarten in both the 3 and 4-year old programs reflect our philosophy and the expectations of the National Quality Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.
